School Calendar

Hilltop’s 38-week school year begins after Labor Day and ends the first week in June. The school is closed during Kalamazoo Public Schools winter break and on selected legal holidays. A special theme week is available to all students during KPS’s spring break. Please refer to the school calendar for specific dates.

Program Placement

Teachers recognize children's varying degrees of ability, emotional independence, and social maturity, therefore ages listed next to programs are merely a guideline in determining program placement.

Enrollment is subject to the following conditions:

  • All children must be independent with bathroom habits.
  • The parent must present a statement (Health Appraisal Form) from a physician stating that the child is medically able to participate in all activities.
  • The maximum enrollment of the school shall be within limits of the state license.

Late Enrollment

Tuition shall be prorated for a child enrolling after the school year has begun.

Tuition Refunds and Withdrawal

Once enrolled, the obligation to pay according to the rate sheet is unconditional and not subject to reduction, proration, or setoff because of a child’s absence or the parent’s decision to withdraw a child or children from Hilltop Preschool. All students are enrolled for the entire school year, unless it is expressly agreed to the contrary in writing.
If there are any serious problems with a child’s ability to function adequately in the preschool program, the teacher will consult the Director, and, if necessary, recommend withdrawal of the child from the school. A tuition refund will be prorated from the date of withdrawal.

Parent Involvement

We offer many opportunities for parent involvement from assisting in the classroom and on field trips, organizing special events, helping teachers prepare activities, to having a voice at Hilltop Task League (HAL) Meetings. Parents are welcome to drop in any time. Visitors are kindly requested to call in advance for an appointment.
